The article gives a preliminary analysis and date deduction on the materials of stone dagger-axes and ivory Zhangs before Qin dynasty excavated in the south of the Five Ridegs and Sanxingdui Sacrificial Pits. At the same time, the relationships between them are also discussed in this paper. The first section introduces the general information of the stone dagger-axes all over China and then analyses its distribution, characters and possible date in the area of southern Five Ridegs. The stone dagger-axes in the south of the Five Ridegs are different from central China and other places not only in shape but also in character. It can be divided into two types-A and B viewed from the shape. The author thinks that the Type A was mostly used for war because it has a strong aboriginal culture. From the shape of Type B, we can find the influences from central China and the appliance of Type B is also similar to the jade Ge found in that area. It was used for rites. Viewed from the date, Type A and B can be subdivided into several types. Most of them are belong to the Fubin Culture, which was from the late Shang dynasty to the early Western Zhou dynasty in central China. In the second section, the author firstly makes a simple discussion on the distribution and date of the ivory Zhangs in China and then gives a preliminary classification on those excavated in Shanxingdui site. The ivory Zhangs excavated in Shanxingduisite can be divided into six types and they are mostly from the late Shang dynasty to the early Western Zhou dynasty. One of the ivory Zhang divided into type F by the author is very similar in shape to the stone and bone Zhangs found in the southern Five Ridegs. It can be deduced that there are possible relations between them. But in character, they are different. We can find clear traces of being used in the simialr articles excavated in the south of the Five Ridegs. The author considers that all of ivory Zhangs in Shangxingdui site are belong to ritual vessels and while some of them in the area of southern Five Ridegs have practical usage. In the third section, what the author discusses is the relations between the stone dagger-axes and ivory Zhangs excavated in in the south of the Five Ridegs and Sanxingdui Sacrificial Pits. What the author concerns is the spallation between the stone dagger-axes and ivory Zhangs in the two areas. When the author is analysising the materials of southern Five Ridegs area, she names some of them "convex vessels looking like dagger-axe". The shape of this article is between the ivory Zhang and stone dagger-axe. So we can say that this kind of article is the spallation between the stone dagger-axe and ivory Zhang. The similar characters can also be found in Shangxingdui site. The author concludes that these characters found in the south of the Five Ridegs and Sanxingdui site ought to be the outcome of commucations between different cultures in the two areas. In the future, we should pay more attention to these phenomena and the similarities of the cultures in the two areas and discuss the exact route and history background of commucation between them.
