Working memory is the limited memory system that stores and processes temporarily. Many studies indicate that working memory plays a very important role in the cognitiveactivity, such as comprehension, problem-solving, reasoning and learning. Nowadays, working memory is a hot topic in the field of cognitive psychology. It's primary function is toremain relevant information and to inhibit irrelevant information. From this point of view, wediscuss the relation of Chinese comprehension and inhibition mechanism in workingmemory. The study includes two experiments. The first is prepared experiment. Based onDaneman and Carpater's reading span task (1980), we work out a reading span task ofChinese comprehension test. There are 75 subjects. All are college students. According totheir final scores, we select 40 subjects, separating high and low group. The 40 subjects wouldcontinue the next experiment. Experiment 2 is the formal one, this experiment would studyboth capacity of inhibit distractor information and no-longer relevant information will workduring the Chinese comprehension. The sentences of reading span task are worked out bymyself. There are 3 condition: distractor condition (in the sentence will appear the word of themeaning of relate), interference condition (before the sentence will appear the word of relate),and control condition .The result of experiment show:1.The Inhibitory mechanism of lowcomprehension span subject can't work well;2.Both the capacity of restraining distractor andcapacity of Restraining no-longer relevant information influence the grade of RST;3.Thecapacity of restraining distractor have more important effect during the comprehension.
