Research On Comparation Between Expert And Novice In Resume Selection

The exploration of expertise lists among the most important themes in cognitive psychology. Comparation between expert and novice is the main method for the exploration of expertise. It is widely used in many fields. As the first step in recruitment, resume selection is very important to the whole process of recruitment. More and more researchers have paid attetion to researches on resume selection. In this thesis, the author attempts to apply the method of comparation between expert and novice into resume selection, compare expert and novice's performances on resume selection.In this thesis, the author collects datas through questionair and thinking aloud, and use x2 test and t test for statistics. The author compares expert and novice's performances on resume selection in four aspects: (1) knowledge and experience in sales representative's recruitment; (2) the understandings for Job Description (JD) ; (3) cognitive aspects, for example, correctness, perception, self-monitoring and so on; (4) the way of searching information and standards of judgement.The result of experiments showed that :(1) During the recruitment of sales representatives, Experts examine more aspects and have richer knowledge in rank orders. This relates to their rich experiences; (2) Experts have advantages on recalling the items of JD. According to this JD, experts examine more aspects; (3) The differences on correctness relate to the task contents. Experts have stronger abilities of self-monitoring; (4) There are differences in the way of searching information on resumes and in the quantity and content of standards of judgement between expert and novice.It has important significance in theory and practice that we apply the method of comparation between expert and novice into resume selection. We can do more researches in future.
