The Afro-American were discriminated and oppressed in the slavery. The Afro-American women, as the part of the Afro-American, carried a twofold burden: they have been judged inferior on the basis of their sex and of their color. They have been called the few of the few and the slave of the slave. The Afro-American women's ideas and their status had many changes for varieties of thoughts and circumstance in the society since the Second World War. The dissertation reviews synthetically the status change of the Afro-American women in the view of history and in virtue of the sociology and Women's studies to outline the whole form of the Afro-American women, which dialyzes the transformation of the US from the changes of the Afro-American women. The thesis including 4 chapters analyzes the status change of the Afro-American women and its reasons since the Civil Rights Movement. The first chapter is the Afro-American women in the Civil Rights Movement, which sets forth the reasons of the Civil Rights Movement, the shift from Civil Rights to Black Power, the actions of the Afro-American in the movement, and the impact of the Civil Right Movement to the Afro-American women in thoughts and another else respects. The Afro-American women supported absolutely the civil right movement and distinguished themselves. Meanwhile, the Civil Rights Movement has active impact on the Afro-American women in education, employment, and thoughts. The second chapter is the role orientation of the Afro-American women, which introduces the attitudes of the Afro-American women to the Second Feminism Movement. The chapter analyzes mostly the role orientation and their self-liberation for the impact of the Civil Rights Movement and the Feminism Movement. The Afro-American backed the Feminism movement in attitude. But they didn't take part in the movement. Facing the interests of the folk and individual interests, the Afro-American women selected the former. The Afro-American women didn't participate the movement was also because the feminist movement had misplay in politics and difference between the black women and the white women in some problems and so on. The Afro-American women formed different wings: moderates and radicals respectively, for the rights of the Afro-American women for their rights. The liberation way of black women was different from that of the white women. The feminism of the black women was in their mind and wasn't put into practice. There wasn't a large black women's movement, too.The third chapter is the education and employment of the Afro-American, which discusses mostly the changes of the black women in education and employment since the Civil Rights Movement. The black women have many advanced changes in education and employment due to the Civil Rights Movement and the Feminism Movement. The black women have made greater progress than they did. But the gap between the black and the white are very large in these respects. The fourth chapter is the family life of the black women, which expatiates mostly the pattern of the black family and the role of the black women in the family. The black family wasn't matriarchal or patriarchal but androgynous. The husbands and wives were equal and shared breadwinner role in the family. We couldn't magnify the function of the black women. We should see enough the black husbands cared the family, wives and children. Recently, wives substantially share the breadwinner role but their husbands' contribution to housework need further increasing. The first and the second chapters are background materials to introduce the space of the black women. The third and fourth chapters expatiate concretely the Afro-American women's education, employment, and black family life.
