In this paper, guided by the philosophy of the existentialism and managed by the methodology of phenomenology, we study the existential situation of the-Man-in-the-world. We make an existential definition on the meaning of the death of human being. We believe that the existence or man is mortality and finitude. It is the attribute of the human being belonging to himself when he was born in the world. The meaning of death includes two aspects as decease and dying while living. We are discussing the issue that how religion is coming into being. We are drawing a conclusion that the torpid of mortality and finitude in the human nature is the rudimentary cause. That is to say, for the mortality, Man pursues the infinity; for the finitude, He pursues the eternity. We are also researching the relationship between the religions and death. We give examples of them by Christianity and Buddhism. We find that some general opinions are persisted in different religion at the same time. For instance, the profound ideas on death were in existence centuries ago. And the causes leading to death had been open out, although the different view was discovered by the two different religions. By compared with existentialism, we think out that the time when the understanding on the death was acquired shows another difference between them. We even admit that the meanings on the infinity and eternity of religion defined in the thesis is incapable of expressing the actually significances in the practical forms of religion fully. For example, Buddha and his doctrines, his cultivating methodsaccording to them, can argue or prove the incapability.
