Viewing from the angle of adaptation theory, this thesis studies literary translation from social, cultural and cognitive aspects and aims to examine the peculiarity and complexity of literary translation so as to channel literary translation study into a coherent, integrated framework and broaden the space for literary translation development.As a relatively new field in linguistics, pragmatics provides translation studies with not only theories at a macro level, but also linguistic analysis methods at a micro level. It also plays an important role in the research of translation methodology and orientation of translation studies. However, most research conducted is only restricted to influences of certain pragmatic concepts on literary translation. A coherent and integrated framework based on pragmatic theories can hardly be established.Based on the four angles of investigations of adaptation theory, this thesis reveals the special embodiment of choices and adaptation of verbal communication in literary translation through a detailed and systematic analysis of the dynamic adaptation in literary translation.
