The object of this paper is Mendelssohn's piano works. By means of investigating the arts and thoughts of these works from three aspects - the duality of classicism and romanticism, the perspicuity of the musical language and the nationality and the publicity of the musical thoughts, this paper will not only help establish a comprehensive and objective understanding about Mendelssohn's piano works, but provide the valuable references for the study and the performance of Mendelssohn's piano works.Apart from the Opening and the Closing, the paper is mainly composed of the following five parts:1.The general introduction of Mendelssohn's piano works.By analyzing his works in the early period and mature period, Mendelssohn's effort on the piano music is fully understood.2.The duality of classicism and romanticism-a peculiarity of Mendelssohn's piano music.By exploring Mendelssohn's creative thoughts on music, that is, the heritage and the independence, his styles, musical materials and the duality of classicism and romanticism of arts are discussed.3.The clarity of the musical language - a peculiarity of Mendelssohn's piano musicThis part demonstrates that Mendelssohn's piano music is characterized by the refined forms, the plain techniques and the explicit emotions.
