| Flannery O'Connor, an American female writer, employs so-called Christian Realism in literature to make an analysis of the dark and absurd side of modern western human society. However, that special writing method cannot be accepted by some other literary writers and critics. This thesis is written for the purpose of revealing the theme of Christian Realism and the theory on which that style is based---the theory of original sin and Jesus'redemption for mankind in Christianity. This thesis, developed by analyzing the protagonist, Hazel Motes, and the other characters and his psychological pilgrimage to Christianity in Wise Blood, illuminates the writer's serious contemplation on the darkness of modern western society. It cannot be denied that O'Connor's Christian Realism has its own limitations in understanding the whole human society and humanity. From the perspective of dialectic, although her worldview is helpful for us to learn about the great impact on human spiritual world in western Christian society, her pondering on human world, based on the original sin and Jesus Christ's redemption, is short of scientific proofs. |
