Research On The Qipao (Cheongsam Dress) Development Of The Republic Period

The goal of this research is to describe and analyze the development of the Qipao and it aesthetics characteristic during Republic Period. In this study, there are three aspects. The first part takes the abnormal prosperity of Shanghai, during the colonial and semi-colonial society environment as the background. This study involved in analysis, compares and to use the results from the predecessor's research. In the area of textual research, "describe without conclusion" method was attempted to use to describe and to sum up the important arguments which related to the origins of Qipao, and take the advantage of historical methodology to supplement the insufficiency. In the second part, which is about the process of combining the entire course of Qipao's development during the Republic Period with the social culture and ideological background, I used the cultural research methods in a multi-level and the multiple perspectives to conduct this research. Outline the fundamental factor of the influence of Qipao's development during the Republic Period. The third part analyzes the Qipao by using the clothing psychology perspective viewpoint to analyze into a deeper level factor of Qipao and obtaining both Chinese and westerner's esthetic approval and esteem, which can promulgate the immortal charm of Qipao. Through these work, I had analyze:1, The first part is drawing a conclusion of the key point of the arguments about the origin time of Qipao which is the confusion of its definitions through the comparison and analysis of correlated information, and drawing a graph in detail to express each definition's covered contents, and has made the foundational work for Qipao's later research.2, Through the analysis of historical pictures and various historical writings, I boldly pointed out the incomprehensive, and the Qipao's model origin mixed with the various styles of both China and West.3, Many historical writings as well as photographs and publications were elucidated and corroborated to give more detail of description about all the influence factor to the development of Oipao such as ideology, culture and society, etc. It is not difficult to discover the prosperous inevitability of Qipao during that period of time.4, Summarize the reason of Qipao called as a classics by the esthetic value analysis:It is the brightest color of Chinese tradition clothing art and also the endless inspiration fountainhead which the western designer takes.As a Qipao, the research had done under a comprehensively, systematically, objectively in a special environment as a main point. Having the Qipao under the colonial cultural environment, only then can understand the Qipao's unique culture meaning entirely, and also explained the quintessence of a country in that time. The irresistible competitive power and deserve the reputations one enjoys. This research is for the purpose of making up leaks and deepening, does not strive for surmounting, has done a solid foundational work for the Qipao's later research, and also provided the theory reference and the background instruction for those workers who engaged in the Qipao domain.
