This thesis is a corpus-based study on the usage patterns of BECAUSE by Chinese college non-English majors through comparison between the Chinese Learner English Corpus (CLEC) and the Corpus of Canadian Native University Student English Essays (COCNUS). With a series of computation and tests carried out with FoxPro and SPSS, this thesis examines the overall distributions and the frequencies of BECAUSE according to its syntactic functions, usage patterns and positions. The results revealed the prevalent patterns and common errors of BECAUSE in Chinese non-English majors' compositions.
