On Ruan Ji's Aesthetics Of Existence

The matter of existence is the basic problem of life, especially for Ruan Ji, a famous scholar of integrity living in the dark and turbulent times between Wei and Jin Dynasty. He was always in the state of in and out of the political affairs, spending his days in contradiction and seeking the way out in distress. Under the disguise of unconventional and unrestrained life, he had a heart full of torment, a strong sense of life and a deep tragic sense of existence. This article tried to probe the way of existence and the mode of poetic free life in eagerness in special background through a unique point of view by carefully reading his poetic works.This thesis began with the way of naturalism, which was the foundation of Ruan Ji's theory. It deeply revealed Ruan Ji's unique aesthetic idea of existence through following the change of his life style and the state of mind in addition to the discussion of the change of the implication of the naturalism. On the basis of the previous researches by others, the writer tried to find the similarity and dissimilarity between Ruan's theory and Zhuang Zi's theory through the comparison between them and rethinking the significance of life through the related western philosophy. The writer tried to grasp the soul of Ruan's theory and to communicate with Ruan in addition to the ones who explained Ruan's theory.The thesis explained Ruan's aesthetic idea systematically through the appearance, implication and influence of it. The thesis revealed the change of Ruan's life orientation and thinking pattern from the ideal of actively making achievements to naturalism and floating with the tide of times. His idea gave us the impression of dynamic and inseparable beauty.The writer hold that Ruan's aesthetic theory filled with the idea of freely overpass gave us the sense of beauty to life. It has significant revelation to the existence of modern people and the construction of individual character.
