Chorus is one of the forms of vocal music. It means that the same song is arranged for singing by more than two groups of singers in different voices. The emergence and development of choral music are closely related to the production activities and lives of the workers. Chorus is one of the most popular cultural activities among the general public. The most obvious characteristics of it is that it uses human voice as the basic element of harmony. It enjoys great harmony and unity and easily expresses subtle human feelings and the rich ideas conveyed by the works. No other artistic forms can compete with it in terms of the great artistic appeal. The development of choral music in China may only date back to about 100 years ago. At the end of the 19th century, with the wide spread of Christian music in China, especially after the May 4th movement, singing activities were very popular among the people in both cities and countryside. Since then China began to have its own choral music. With the vast changes in China's politics and history, choral music played an active role in different periods of history. After the foundation of the P.R.C., in particular, after China'reform and opening up to the outside world, choral music has been enriched and developed greatly. Chorus has received more and more welcome and appreciation from the general public.The Fourth Session of the Sixteenth Central Committee of the PartyClearly indicates the goal of constructing a socialist harmonized society. It requires all the members of the society to improve the qualities of morality. By discussing and researching on the artistic form of choral music and the role it plays in the process of the development of the society, this article is to discuss the relationship between choral music and improving the qualities of humanities. Spreading the ethnic culture, popularizing the choral music among the general public, and making the choral music play a more active role in constructing a harmonious socialist society really bear realistic meanings.
