Dialogism is the basic characteristic of Herman Hesse's novels. It not only bears an important methodology meaning concerning the art representation, but also serves as the meaning of expressing the thought of the author. It is the basic manner of finding himself. Dialogue not only refers to the dialogues between the characters, but also includes the dialogues between the spirit elements and propositions, and the dialogues between the texts. Through presenting the dialogue communities in Hesse' novels, the thesis strives to reveal the function and meaning of dialogue in building the art space and thought structure of Hesse's novels.On the foundation of analyzing the main bodies and forms of the dialogues in Hesse's novels, the thesis casts back to the fountain of the dialogism in literature, namely the dialectic, and discusses the relationship between them. Accordingly the thesis concludes that dialogue is the process of self expression and transcending of the life, it is the essence of human being.
