Jane Eyre, written by an English female novelist Charlotte Bronte, achieved a resounding success in English literature when it appeared more than 150 years ago. On the success of the novel, many views have been put forward and among them, the feminist theory is the most famous one. In my opinion, however, the success of Jane Eyre depends much more on the ordinary readers rather than on the abstruse theory of feminism. On the basis of many research materials, three factors contributing to the success of Jane Eyre are put forward from the perspective of the ordinary readers. They are the love paradigm, the Cinderella paradigm and the Gothic paradigm. It is true that there are also a lot of other factors, such as its sharp criticism towards the existing society, the allegorical experiences of the protagonists as well as the proposal of the first governess image in English literature contributing to the success of Jane Eyre. It is all these elements that win its great position and wide popularity.
