Pursuing Imagist Beauty, Exploring Road To Innovation

Imagism, derived from dramatic theory, is a school of traditional Chinese easthetic thought and has always been the attraction of modern artists in the world. It deeply reflects some principles for artistic creation , appreciation and the dialectic relationship among the artists, the nature, the creation objects and the appreciators. Every form of artistic creation has imagist element, but imagism is the artists' self-conscious pursuance of fully exerting their imagination and creativity.Through various ways of sense, impression, memory, association, expressing inner feeling, experience and actuation, the concrete colors and form of natural objects are melted with the artists's dream, illusion and imagination. The artists then enter into a state of mastering the nature as a whole unit. In this way, every vision in the nature, idealized with the artists' subjecitve feeling, reveals the freedom, happiness without restriction from the object of creation and shows innervation and rhythmWatercolor painting, as a form of art, has naturally the school of imagism. Many artists at both home and abroad untake creation on imagist watercolor painting. Introduced from the West and influenced greatly by British water color painting, water color painting is endowed with new characteristics by Chinese people since it is combined with Chinese wisdom, Chinese traditional culture and paintings .Yet what makes Chinese water color painting dazzling and charming is the research results explored by the application of the conception of image from Chinese traditional aesthetic system. Imagist watercolor painting, judged by its expressive capability, is closest to Chinese traditional imagist wash painting. In order to show Chiese people's specific feelings and temperament multi-sidedly, to creatediversified, Chinese-specific imagist water color paintings to people's taste, it's quite important to master water's characteristics, to harmonize water and ink, water and color, and to have a wise measure on the degree of using them in order to show the imagist beauty. Furthermore, artists should also follow the rules of artistic development through ages, and ,by digging into Chinese culture, try to merge the essence of both Chinese and Western art.China is endowed with profound and broad culture and a good environment for the development of imagist water color painting. Therefore, the future of imagist watercolor painting will be quite bright. The author, deeply influenced by water color painting, attracted by its freedom and the charm of expressing spirit through feelings, determines to take it as the life-long research focus. This paper presents some experiences and reflections on watercolor painting creation and awaits further criticism and improvement.
