Susanne. K. Langer was sole female famous aesthetician in western aesthetics history as yet. She had constructed an edifice of aesthetics thoughts on symbolism of arts by melting A. Whitehead's logical symbolism and E . Cassirer's human–culture symbolism, by dissolving critically thought quintessences of Bell, Bergson, Croce, Baensch, Collingwood, by sucking up new research product social sciences and natural sciences. This discourse has inner clue of Langer's philosophical and aesthetic thought development, and the frame of Langer's aesthetics thought. The author has studied deeply Langer's thought of symbolism. The author thinks that Langer's thought of symbolism is a new symbolism resting on her own philosophy. Its content includes new definition on symbol, distinction between sign and symbol, discursive symbolism and presentational symbolism. The author has elaborated Langer's aesthetics thought of art expressing human feelings. In the discourse, the author has elaborated Langer's theories of logical forms, living forms, logical analogy, art illusion, aesthetic intuition, and explicated the meaning of her proposition of the nature of art.
