The Application Of Flowing Space With Chinese Spirit In Modem Interior Design

The newly development in science and technology makes our world becoming more and more small. Our society is greatly changed by collaboration between different country and communication between different cultures. This trend makes single nation culture that dose not merge with other cultures be in complete disadvantage.Within recent twenty years great changes had taken place in Chinese cities. And with the change of architecture environment, living habit and nation psychology, we also are losing our spirit, such as moral value, soul life and passion for nature. Many excellent interior designers had attempted to change this situation by combining tradition and modern to rebuild a poetic life of Chinese. And this is also the objective of this dissertation.Flowing space is a special kind of space state, which was developing and improving in Chinese classical architecture for several thousands of years and also was the product of modern west architecture. So the Chinese and west architecture culture merged here. In this dissertation flowing space was studied and a new method to combine modern with tradition was suggested.There are four parts in this dissertation.The first part introduced the concept of flowing space and it's origin and features.The second was about material. Beginning from the speciality of Chinese architecture space, flowing character in Chinese interior space was analysed and experiences form ancestor that enlightened modern interior design were also discussed.The third was about Qi. The spirit property of flowing space behind material level was discussed. And the spirit of Chinese culture was excavated. The result was we could understand Chinese national psychology, esthetic value, which stamped Chinese interior space, through flowing space.And the last was the conclusion. Some applications of Chinese spirit flowing space in modern interior design were fulfilled in this part.
