Saul Bellow is the greatest Jewish American writer after Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner died. From 1938 until now Bellow has published a record of thirteen novels and a few short stories. In 1976 Saul Bellow won the Nobel Prize for his "humanistic understanding and exquisite analysis of the contemporary culture".Saul Bellow is humanism, his work mainly describes the human who cannot find the standpoint in American society, and they hanged between the ideal and the reality, insisting the belief of love. Using the theory of cultural research, Saul Bellow himself is also "the hanging human ", as the same as the characters of his works, he always sways between the American culture and the Jewish culture. This article aimed to excavate the relationship of Saul Bellow's work and Jewish culture, discussing the question of conflict and the conformity between the American culture and the Jewish culture appears in Bellow's work. According to these analyses I also attempt to obtain some enlightenment about cultural assimilation and the cultural independence. The paper is divided two parts, the first part discuss about the subject of Bellow's work: human's asking - who am I, where do I come from and where will I go. The present ,past and the future were linked through these three questions, and Bellow finished his seek and research about eternal through these. The second part is embarked from the cultural viewpoint, try to find the cultural sauce hiding behind Bellow's works, the conflict and the conformity betweentwo kind of heterogeneous cultures------the American culture and the Jewishculture------is one of the causes of Bellow works' subject, they didn't knowhow to inherit the traditional culture and how to the adapt the new cultural . This is the main body of the article. The last part attempts to find some enlightenments, discussing the theory of culture assimilation and the maintenance superficially, pondering the meaning of traditional the desalination.
