Mr. Wu fanggu is a well-known watercolor painter and educator. He lives in an era that classic art crashes with modern art and eastern culture crashes with the western. With this background, he gained profound understanding to the western culture and both with deep Chinese culture. He is an outstanding representative of the Guangdong watercolor artists who had undergo the hardship of "culture revolution". He has a profound influence on the development of Guangdong watercolors and the painting education. This article tries to define the unique aesthetic thought and understanding of Mr. Wu's paintings through the analysis of the various art activities of Mr. Wu through all his periods and his own personal character and his achievements by his unique art style based on his inheritance of Chinese traditional culture, and his absorption of western watercolor techniques.Mr. Wu's watercolor paintings has very distinct personal character: he inherits the traditional British watercolor painting technique. His painting always displayed the originality and the reflection of life; his paintings also revealed the deep influence of Chaozhou and Shangtou culture which was simple, clear,naturalized and vivid; the essence of Chinese aesthetic philosophy was also revealed in his paintings. He conveys the main themes with fresh, individual and distinctive rhythm. Mr. Wu's watercolors gained international recognition. His technique and style of watercolor remains a valuable asset for the followers to research on. This article acknowledges the great contributions made by Mr. Wu. His watercolors have reached an insurmountable level. He was recognized as the father of modern watercolors of Guangdong area.
