Reading is the major goal and at the same time the most important means in language learning. Reading strategies refer to strategies used by language learners aiming to improve their comprehension, such as predicting, inferencing, and evaluating. Researches on reading strategies are of great importance in language learning as well as in language teaching.Researches on this field initiated in western countries, and most studies were under the background that English was learned as the second language. In China, however, where English is learned as a foreign language, the researches are relatively less, and most of them were carried out with English majors. Researches on non-English major college students are rare and reports about validity of strategy training are quite few. So this thesis tries to fill in the blank in this field.This thesis is a study of reading strategies training in an on-going college English classroom, and investigates the effects of the training on students' reading abilities by means of analyzing test results and the questionnaire. This research is to study the validity and feasibility of reading strategies training in college English classes. Or in other words, its aim is to find out whether the reading strategies' training is effective or not. We address the following questions:1. Are there any differences between the efficient and the non-efficient student readers in using English reading strategies?2.
