Li Bai, the great Chinese poet of the Tang dynasty, traveled extensively almost all of his life. Among multitudinous places where Li traveled, Chang 'an was the most representative. Chang 'an of the "second great period of Tang" is not only a political, economical and cultural centre, but also a flourishing polis where poets gathered together and made communication in party. It offered an important stage for intellectuals to show themselves enthusiastically as much as they liked. The rich capital culture attracted intellectuals to assemble from everywhere. Therefore, the prosperity of Chang 'an was closely linked with the prosperity of the poems of Tang and the ethos ofintellectuals. The tight relationship between Li——a representative of the intellectuals of Tangdynasty and Chang 'an——a famous polis is a focus.Based on Li Bai's poems, historical literature and present achievement, this dissertation explores the relationship between Chang 'an and Li, the relationship between geological culture and literature creation. With the methods of combination of literature history and observation in detail, it discusses the problem that Chang 'an has strong influence over Li's mood, life and literature to demonstrate the importance of Chang 'an. It attends to reveal Li's traveling in Chang 'an historically, to explain his poems newly and return his traveling life truly. This dissertation consists of three parts except introduction from whole to part, step by step.The first, the complex of Li's traveling in Chang 'an under the background of capital culture. This chapter discusses the problem that the special capital culture makes Li has a kind of rooted mood of loving the capital presented by different mental changes.The second, the analysis about value orientation of Li's traveling in Chang 'an. This chapter discusses the problem that Chang 'an. has strong influence over Li's life style in details. Intellectuals' traveling extensively is a kind of mutual communication between intellectuals and society. The roles whatever Li plays out of utilitarian or non-utilitarian purpose are all the reappearance of his traveling in Chang 'an.The third, the relationship between Li's traveling in Chang 'an and his poems.
