The combination of translation and gender arouses doubt and betrayal towards the propositions of traditional translation theories. And the feminist translation practice also brings great impact and challenge on traditional translation thoughts. The connection between translation and gender has a long history. According to traditional translation theories, translation should keep the same with the original text in the content, form and style. In the traditional view, woman is always dependent on man, and belongs to the weak group. Therefore, translation is compared to a woman or a waitress. This concept is a contempt and devaluation towards woman and translation. The Western feminist translators show their female identities in the translation activities. On the other hand, Bing Xin emphasizes women's importance in a family. As a kind of ideology, Bing Xin's feminist consciousness is certainly to influence her translation thoughts and practices. Reading Bing Xin's translations, we can find her special feminist consciousness. Influenced by this thought, she greatly glorifies woman's virtues, tries to eliminate the gender discrimination in the originals and improves woman's status in family and society. This essay consists of five chapters. In the introduction, I make a literature review towards the study of gender and translation as well as the study of Bing Xin's translation, and...
