Mural paintings may well be the earliest paintings in the human history. From worldwide, the countries and areas with relatively prosperous mural art mainly lie around the European Mediterranean areas and secondly in such Asian countries and areas as China, Japan, ancient India and Mesopotamian and Southeastern Asia.Those grand, and lively paintings drawn on the rock walls of the primitive caves, which can be rated as naturalistic masterpieces, keep a record of the primitive civilization. Mural art evolves with the continued advance of human history. This thesis attempts to analyze the eastern and western mural arts from primitive society to modern society from the perspectives of the concern with human beings and the human values and humanity demonstrated in these mural paintings. So far, the earliest mural paintings are all of the ancient slave society.This paper adopts humanistic spirit reflected in the mural art as a cut-in point and make an in-depth analysis of and verifies the changes of humanism environment, caused by the evolution of social forms and the increasing public concern about humanistic spirit arising from these changes.Finally, this paper concludes that however developed social economy and science and technology are, the development of mural art must take as its pivotal responsibility the task of mirroring public life and aesthetic needs, fully showing respect for its artistic publicity. Meanwhile, mural arts will develop in diversified styles.
