With the cultural turn of translation studies and the flourish of feminism in culture study, feminist translation theory emerged at the end of last century. Thereby, attentions have been drawn to gender issues in translation. How does gender affects literary translation activity? Will the translator's gender perspective influences his/her translation? Can a man translator translate texts by women as well as a woman does? With these questions in mind, the research starts with a descriptive approach toward gender issues in translation.The dissertation will borrow the concept of androgyny to analyze the translator's gender perspective in translation. "Androgyny" is a widely used concept in humanities, generally refers to the coexistence of masculine and feminine in one mind. Literary criticism points out that some writers can surpass the gender border in his/her creative writing and thus present a narration characterized by his/her opposite gender. This is called the androgynous perspective of the writer. By applying this concept in translation, I propose that the translator can cross the gender border and present androgynous perspective in translation, which is more complicated than the writer's. Su Yifeng's translation of Lifetime Regret will be given to support my argument. He is verified to be a translator with androgynous perspective. There are mainly three conditions for a translator to acquire androgynous perspective: basic translator competence, empathy with the gender other and relevant theoretical knowledge.The androgynous perspective means that the translator can consider from the gender other's point of view. This kind of transposition happens not only in the area of gender identity. To broaden the scope of androgyny in translation, I find that the translator's androgynous perspective represent the intersubjective dialogue in translation activity.
