| Based on the general theory of the systemic functional grammar and the domain conflation theory by Christopher Johnson, and the generative cognition theory by Swiss psychologist Piaget, this paper is designed targeting mainly at a research on the psychological base, the semantic generative process and the polarity of the interpersonal function of the subjunctive mood system. According to the domain theory by Christopher Johnson, before three years old, children have no sense of domain, a differentiation domain, and after three years old, could the domain conflation occur. It means the stimulation in one domain can project into another. Only by then, domain conflations take shape. So, genetically, the infant's brain has a physiological domain conflation base.Piaget believed that children could only acquire their abstractive cognitive ability after 3 years old, the age for linguistic operation and the starting point for thinking in an adult way. Halliday discovered that children's language informing function occur at the age of two, symbolizing the formation of their abstraction ability, that means the occurrence of domain conflation. Halliday believed that only one of the three metafunctions could be found in children's performance. With the analysis and research, we considered that the processing of the domain conflation is generative, dynamic, and cognitive one. Children's acquired their language three metafunctions while their abstractive ability is formalized before 3 years old.On semantics, domain conflation theory concerns about the semanteme features of polysymy. With cognitive linguistics, it is realized that a polysemant is embedded with a core concept as its semantic epicenter which is the base for the derivation of its semantemes. The semantic core is the effect of conflation part of two or more domains. And the derivation of the word's semantemes is generated in the integration of the experiencing process of two or more domains conflation. This is the origin for the generation of the conceptual metaphoric function. It causes the realization of concept metaphor on the linguistic level come true. Hence, it makes language bear a conceptual metaphoric realization function. Linguistic metaphoric features can not only be realized by the content words, the formation of the conjunctive semantic system is also caused by the function of conceptual metaphor. The derivation of its multiple semantemes experienced as what the content vocabulary have.Initial from the interpersonal function research of the systemic functional grammar, this paper has done a further research on the subjunctive words and its grammatical metaphor structures which can convey interpersonal functions. Based on a scientific analysis, we gave a comment on how the non-subjunctive mood words change into subjunctive mood words with the function of domain conflation theory and conceptual metaphoric theory. The English subjunctive words we emphasized here are: "demand", "order" and "wish "etc.;the structures conveying subjunctive meaning are (1) "What if structure;(2) "If I were..., I would..." construction;(3) "That" clause: (as subjective, predicative orobjective);(4) Abbreviation structure headed by "should" or "had" and so on;(5) Abbreviation sentence;(6) Independent subject;(7) Idioms;(8) Gerund;(9) Implicit Subjunctive Mood initiated by prepositions;(10) implicit subjunctive sentence introduced by conjunctives;(11) Some subjective clauses can be used subjectively to express surprise, advice, request, and so on;(12) Subjunctive clause as predicative clause and appositive clause;(13) Subjunctive mood in contributive clause. The semantic structures for subjunctive mood system are very complex, which can realized the interpersonal function, hi the bookv4 Study on the Interpersonal Meaning, Ii Zhan-zi suggested the three subsystems for appraisal system: attitude, interference and polarity. According to the polarity theory, an analysis is given in this paper on interpersonal meaning metaphor realized by the semantic structure, polarity and the function of the predicate elements transitivity in the discourse n the mood, modality and thematic structure. All the analyses are in harmony with the purpose of the utterance, the emotional effects the writer wants to achieve: the distance of relation, happiness, encouragement, the mask of guilt, and so on. A comparative analysis is also held on the interpersonal meaning realization forms conveyed by the subjunctive mood structure in the Chinese ancient poems. A logical semantic round explanation is given on the mood and modality structures for style and genre. We considered subjunctive mood words can be catalogued generally into three ranks: high, medium and low, according to the strength of the interpersonal function. It alternate according the variety of context. It prove the truth that functional words are featured with grammatical metaphor. (1) "ffi" and "M" has two main meanings: one is "wish", which is a high rank word;the other is "almost" which is often used as Finite. High rank words such as "'$." and "M" are fit for magnanimous style of Su Shi and Li Bai, expressing intense feelings. When interpreted as "desire", '"$K" is a noun or adjective. (2)Medium rank words such as "IR^" , "{g|R" is fit for depressed feeling and dilemma like Du Fu or keep a balance of emotion. (3) Low rank words such as "M ii", "iijk", "^=r#"and "ii" is fit for expressing sadness like homesick or lovesick. (4)The omission of subjunctive mood functional words. It is a very common phenomenon, because Chinese poetry is good at implicate expression, which like Chinese landscape painting. |
