This research makes an empirical study upon the juniors of non-English major in Southwest University cross-sectionally, with the aim of checking their adjective-noun collocational competence. The research examines 181 non-English major juniors chosen at random. In this research, the subjects are divided into two groups respectively according to their major and their CET-4 information. That is, based on the major, 181 subjects are divided into art subjects and science subjects. And according to CET-4 information, 181 subjects are classified into those who have passed CET-4 and those who have not. The test they took involves three types of adjective-noun collocations, including homogenous adjectives, synonymous adjectives and fixed adjective-noun collocation. The study tries to find out the mastery of those three types of adjective-noun collocation under discussion.
