Though the value of Northern Dynasty poetry in research history of Chinese ancient poetry is never ignored by scholars, its research is relatively weak since the early days. And in it, the poetry written by native writer is even less studied. What is the appearance and condition of Northern Dynasty native poetry? How does it develop step by step? What unknown reasons this kind of development evolves? What kind of collision and fusion does it also have with the Southern Dynasty poetry? This article offers answers for the above questions by analyzing the development of Northern Dynasty native writer poetry.Chapter I: The Evolution of Northern Dynasty native literati poetry.There are three phases of development, which has different shapes and characteristics. And it is a gradually developing process.The 1st Phase: It expends from the foundation of Northern Wei Dynasty to the time before Emperor of Wei Xiao Wen moved the capital to Luoyang. The poetry school of restoration occupied the first stage, which was the mainstream of Northern Dynasty native poetry. The representatives of this school mainly were Gao Yun, Zong Qin, Duan Chenggen and so on. The poets at that time were fewer and most of them came from the aristocratic families or the wealthy and prominent families. They produced few poems, and their themes were primarily about exchanging and answering. The poetry of ancient form with four- characters in a line was much used by them, and the poetic language was obscure and difficult to understand. The style was plain, introversive and restrained. The initial impression of this period on modern readers was the overall style of restoration of old ways, which was under the influence of the poetic theory of Confucianism.The 2nd Phase: From the time Emperor of Wei Xiao Wen moved the capital to Luoyang till the end of Northern Wei Dynasty. It had a new look of poetic development. At this time, Chinese classical poem with lines of four characters is not the mainstream anymore.
