Discourse Markers And Metacognition

Discourse marker is a kind of linguistic form, which is not concerned with syntactic structure but plays a textual function between contexts. We bring absolute into generalized discourse marker that was ignored in traditional grammatical category. The discourse marker materializes the metacognition to help organize the discourse structure and realize the speech communication. This thesis tries to research the necessary of discourse marker through the view of cognitive linguistic.Each discourse can be divided into narrative level and being narrated level. Narrative level is above being narrated level which is composed by prepositional meanings. And narrative level controls the semantic representation and organizes the discourse structure. Discourse marker is on these two levels, but emphasized on the narrative level which helps build the textual function.According to the different connection with the textual structure, we divide the discourse marker into structural marker and communicative marker. The structural marker is not concerned with syntactic structure but in the textual structure and organizes the discourse structure, which can visualize the linear and non-linear thinking. The communicative marker is not concerned with both syntactic structure and discourse structure, which helps accommodate the communication in the scene of speech. And it consists of adjustive marker, modal marker and intentional marker.For speakers, the discourse marker is the re-cognition of the cognition to the world, which materializes the metacognition monitoring to help organize the discourse structure and call hears' attention to comprehend the discourse intention. For hears, typical discourse marker is a knot of some schema, which helps estimate the speakers' intention and react properly.From the view of its development, discourse marker is an open system. As a linguistic form, it will turn to be fossilized in the cognition by being used for many times. And at last, the linguistic form will be a typical discourse marker as a knot of some schema.
