People usually believe that language users' ideal state is to express themselves precisely and clearly. However, it is hard for them to do that because of the realm of their cognitive competence, complicated and variable psychological factors, changeable external environment and etc. Actually vagueness is universal in people's daily verbal interaction. Therefore, the dynamic pragmatic process includes meanings imparted by speakers and meanings understood by hearers, which involves coordination and negotiation of meanings between speakers and hearers as well as interference between verbal context and its potential meaning. This dissertation highlights the production and the classification of pragmatic vagueness, pragmatic vagueness strategies and its great importance which speakers command the initiatives in verbal interaction. The pragmatic vagueness strategies manipulators will show how to change the status in verbal interaction in order to realize various purposes and achieve the biggest benefits.
