Translator's Idiosyncrasy And Its Influence Upon The Translating-decision

Probing into the historic and modern research materials related to translating activities, we acknowledge there are numerous words and articles appearing in fragments here and there about influential role of translators'idiosyncrasy upon translators'translating-decisions. Though systematic research of this translating phenomenon is inadequate presently, we are pleased to witness more and more deserved attention are paid to this field from both the critics and the translators. Idiosyncrasy is a composite, interdisciplinary concept. It involves in philosophy, sociology, aesthetics, psychology and other scientific theories whenever needed to be explained explicitly. In this dissertation it is mainly composed of the translators'translating viewpoints, educational background, aesthetic opinions, previous experiences of life, personalities, occupational habits, psychological patterns of collective culture, social identities, translating psychology, etc. In order to make the definition of idiosyncrasy more convincing and descriptive, I categorize it into six items and inset rich literary sentences and phrases respectively as examples. Meanwhile we have to notice that the classification of idiosyncrasy can't be exhaustive because of its flexibility, which changes along with the development of history, society and the enhancement of the people's ability of cognition. Consequently, it's natural and reasonable for more readers and successors to add more to enrich the content of this concept.Additionally, translator's translating-decision is another crucial concept appearing frequently in this dissertation. Generally it can be divided into three phases, the former two of which are chosen as my analytic subjects.I will take three types of translated literary works including poem, prose and novel as examples to show the readers how the translators'idiosyncrasy influences translators'translating-decisions on the whole. According to my own viewpoint, literature is the most complicated artistic form ever created by mankind, which can explicitly and vividly convey the developing process of the whole human being both in terms of materials and ideology.
