This dissertation focuses on performance practices in Beethoven Piano Sonata No.29 in B flat, Op. 106 'Hammerklavier'. From a performer's view, the writer provides some practical suggestions on interpretation and performance of this unique and mammoth work. On the basis of the whole structure, the writer gives a full detail of each movement through analyzing, comparing, demonstrating and illustrating, covering such aspects as tempo, dynamics, romantic expression, symphonic and polyphonic features, as well as technical problems. In the conclusion, the writer shares her feelings about the high complexity of musical contents and structure with readers and gives her opinion on distinct features of this sonata. Some of the suggestions which are related to principles will also have positive meaning in interpreting Beethoven's other works.
