This thesis makes a study of the diary composed by the scholars of the Song Dynasty, and has two emphases. One of the emphases is discussing the diaries about Huanyou by studying Rushu Ji and Wuchuan Lu, the other pays attention to the diaries which were written during the visiting to the Liao Dynasty and GaoLi.This dissertation is consisted of an introduction and three chapters. The introduction is divided into four parts, namely, defining and tracing the origin of the Diaries, giving the outlines of the Diaries from the Han to the Song Dynasty, and tracing the existing state of the study of the diaries written in the Song Dynasty. The first chapter of this thesis discusses the development of Huanyou Diarie. The second chapter deals with the diaries about the visiting to the Liao Dynasty, Jin Dynasty and GaoLi by analyzing the historical background of the exchanging between the Song Dynasty and the minority nationalities in the border areas. While in the third chapter, three types of diaries are discussed, which include the diary in daily life, the diary about some historic events, and Zhinan Lu, a diary written both in poetic and essayistic language.
