The teaching of artistic appreciation plays an important role in artistic curriculum of middle and primary schools during the reform of new artistic curriculum at the present stage . however the art teachers in middle and primary schools are not qualified for the job. And the reasons for that are various, the main one among which is that normal schools, as the base of cultivating art teachers of middle and primary schools ,don' t pay enough attention to the students' education of professional knowledge and cultural quality, especially the proportion of the history of art which is regarded as a humane subject is quite low, and it' s content only focuses on the artistic phenomena in old and modern times, regardless of those in present times; the researching subject only focuses on the classic works in Europe and some other developed areas, regardless of the artistic words of non-mainstream culture in some underdeveloped areas. Besides, the boring and simplistic teaching methods characterized in teachers' teaching and cramming ignore student' s self study and exploration, weakens the usage of the history of art developing the students' professional quality and appreciation ability in normal schools.To counter this issue, the thesis grasps some teaching situation of artistic appreciation through a lot of field work, investigation and research to know the primary students' learning situation and the primary teachers' teaching situation of artistic appreciation and the normal students' learning situation of the history of art. On the other side the thesis also clarifies the positive effects of the history of art on cultivating the professional quality, especially the teaching ability of art appreciation of the history of art in normal schools on the basis of a large quantity of data coming from the relative research of the relative research of the normal students learning situation of the history of art and their teaching performance of artistic appreciation during the teaching practice period.
