In 1993,she won the Nobel Prize.Morrison is a writer with strong sense of race, Black peoples' past and future are the dominant theme in her novels and she always applies herself to maintaining and developing their culture.This thesis tries to make a thorough analysis on the use of the symbolic art in Morrison's novels. And to see how Morrison reflect the complicated relation of race,sexes and culture through such kind of art.In applying the symbols,Morrison has given a full show of Black people's past and present life,and made an active reseach into their future.The present thesis could be divided into three parts.Part 1 seeks to explore the factors underlying Morrison's use of symbolic art.Part 2 divides the symbols into five categories and make a further study on them.In part 3,the thesis foucuses its research on the great contribution of the symbolic art to the dominant theme of the novels.
