A Pragmatic Study On The Reading Comprehension Of Modern Chinese Prose In EEC

Reading comprehension is a typical issue in Pragmatics. This thesis mainly focuses on reading comprehension through the study of reading comprehension tests of modern Chinese prose in the Entrance Examination for College (EEC).The thesis summarizes the pragmatic points which involve in the EEC. Most of the points are about the implicature, such as referring meaning, the meaning of Presupposition, the meaning of evaluation and so on. Therefore, meaning and its inference in reading comprehension are being studied in this thesis.Taking the objective items of scientific readings as example, the thesis analyzes the pragmatic inference in reading comprehension. The thesis distinguishes the inference in broad sense and in narrow sense, and illustrates the steps of inference in broad sense.The thesis attempts to find some sources of difficulties in the inference. It finds out that the extent and complexity of the items, the concentration and decentralization of the target areas during the process of inference are some factors. Meanwhile, the diversification of expression in the detail of the very item is the main source of difficulties in the inference.
