In the course of discussing the problems revealed in a recent market survey on China's animated film industry, we find out a leading problem lies in the fact that most animated films made in China lack amusing plots. As an echo, this thesis particularly specifies'HUMOR'as an important character of animated films, and analyzes it profoundly from an aesthetic point of view, with a focus on the cultural taste and aesthetic value of humor. The thesis also compares the humor making ways of Chinese animated films with American, Japanese and European animated films. During analysis the ruling principle is the aesthetic theory of animation, but at the same time a wide reference is made to other disciplines of knowledge, such as comedy theories, psychology, mass culture studies, etc. It's demonstrated in the thesis that'HUMOR'as a part of mass culture has the unique valuable quality of fusing amusement in thoughts provoking allegory, which makes animated film outstanding among all forms of films, and therefore is a basic way for Chinese film manufacturers to raise the production standard of animated films.
