Reading in senior high school English teaching and University Entrance Examination/UEE has been more and more emphasized in recent years. What is more, with the development of the new curriculum reform, English reading is being paid increasing attention. It is necessary for senior high school English teachers to make good use of the available materials and develop some potential materials. Therefore, using and developing course resources begins to draw attention in the field of education.This thesis will introduce the background of the research from the following aspects: requirements of reading in UEE and in the New English Curriculum Standard/NECE; English environment, students' learning style and new teacher-student relationship; textbook development.It will analyze the learners' learning style and social English learning environment. It includes some related reading theories, such as Schema theory, background knowledge theory, and the Input Hypothesis. It will show how some practical theories have been applied in the writer's teaching of reading class.The hypothesis of this paper is that using and developing course resources will enrich the teaching contents and models, innovate the teaching approaches and learning styles, enlarge the time and space of teaching and learning, improve the students' reading competence, and accordingly, develop their autonomy in study. In order to testify the positive role that course resources can play in English reading, the writer has done an experiment which lasted for one year.The experiment follows experimental method, together with classroom observation and outside-class interviews, questionnaires, etc. The research steps are: (1) Analyze the reading section in the senior high school entrance examination, which is regarded as a basic data. (2) Use the reading section of a test the writer and her cooperators carefully choose to test all the students in Senior Grade One. Then compare respectively the scores of the reading section among eight classes. According to the above date, choose Experimental Class and Control Class in Senior Grade One. (3) After that is a questionnaire survey which aims at knowing better about the students learning habit, family environment, etc. (4) Carry out the experiment.It is concluded that proper course resources can be used as an effective means to arouse the students' interest, to improve their autonomy in English learning, henceimprove the teaching and learning effect in general.The writer believes that this experiment will provide some useful and specific experience in English teaching.
