Neoteric female-education in China has begun with the school created by missionaries who came to China. Harriet Newell Noyes, the missionary of the Presbyterian Board of Mission in the United States, created True Light Seminary in 1872, four years after she got to China, devoted the rest life of herself to the cause of female-education in Guangdong and contributed a lot to the development of female-education in Guangdong. She first introduced advanced educational system, educational standpoint and content of education of the west at that time into the school and cultivated firstly a great number of women who have been under the influence of education of latter day, including the first women doctors, women teachers and women nurses.
