| English reading teaching is one of important aspects in teaching five basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating at college. It is crucial channel by which students can acquire the knowledge, accumulate the vocabulary, familiarize the sentence pattern and cultivate the ability of written expression. Training students to have a strong reading ability should be given in priority in college English teaching target. However, there still exist some teaching problems which will inevitably affect students'reading efficiency. Therefore, after summarizing the achievements of various reading theories, the author probes into the schema theory and its specific application in college English reading teaching.This thesis mainly includes the following parts: The first chapter first points out the negative effect of traditional teaching method on students and therefore, the importance of the study. The author thinks it essential to introduce the schema theory so as to improve English reading level and efficiency. The second chapter introduces some basic theories which include reading comprehension, the schema theory and application of schema theory in English reading. This part lays the theoretical foundation for other chapters. The third one discusses in detail the teaching principles underlying the schema theory. Chapter Four focuses on the specific implementation of the schema theory in the reading class by detailing 12 different kinds of classroom activities which are all related to the schema theory. By depicting these activities, the importance of theory to teachers and students are fully demonstrated. In addition, a relevant teaching plan sample is given to illustrate the effectiveness of these activities. Chapter Five is the experimental stage in which a questionnaire and three tests are conducted to prove the hypotheses. The author monitors the whole process of experimental stage and uses a certain software to analyze and discuss the data. The last chapter is the conclusion part. In this part, based on the above analysis result, the author summarizes the whole thesis and points out the significance of study. |
