F·Scott·Fitzgerald, the famous American novelist in the 20th century, is known as the spokesman and laureate of the"Jazz Age"America, whose"American Dream"give us an accurate picture of the aura of the American twenties."American Dream"is a literature theme throughout more than 200 years'American literature history, which appears variously in different time, different style literature works. With its connotation accumulating and developing,"American Dream"forms and represents a force in American literature as well as culture tradition. To probe the historical and cultural origin of"American Dream", it must be involved in the religion. Fitzgerald's"American Dream"is influenced by the quintessence of the culture which is from the Bible to the Puritanism.This thesis is to analyze the origin of Fitzgerald's"American Dream"based on the Bible and Puritan spirit, in addition to study Fitzgerald's novels from the archetypal perspective. Fitzgerald's thoughts are full of religious consciousness, which are composed of his self-experiences, time and society. To analyze Fitzgerald's novel creation from the literal and religious perspective is to indicate the significance of the interdisciplinary study between literature and religion under the mutual cultural system.
