Lawrence is a great British writer. His polarity thought is a very important part in his philosophical thought system. His view on male-female relationship based on his polarity thought reflects his great concern about the social problems which exist in the nineteenth century England. The first part of this paper analyses the influence on Lawrence of the social, historical and family backgrounds because these backgounds have great and profound influence on D.H.Lawrence. The second part of this paper mainly introduces the research state of Lawrence both at home and abroad, thus we can know this great writer comprehensively. After the brief introduction of the former research on D.H.Lawrence's polarity thought, the third part of this paper, proposes a new understanding of Lawrence's polarity thought: when we study the polarity thought people should not take it for granted that the two opposite parts are only contradictory to each other, and exist in a static state, Actually the two opposites have their own mutual-movement and mutual transformation.During the process of their mutual-movement and mutual-transformation, a new power is created, and such a power pushes the pair of opposites to achieve a better, more harmonious, and more perfect relationship. Lawrence's view on male-female relationship is a reflection of his polarity thought in his literary creation, thus the fourth part of this paper mainly analyses four different groups of male-female relationship: the relationship between couples / mother and her sons / young boys and their lovers / Lady Chatterley and her lovers in D.H.Lawrence's two famous novels, Sons and Lovers, and Lady Chatterley's Lover and reveals the embodied polarity thought. The last part is the brief conclusion. Through the introduction of Lawrence' living backgrounds, summing up the research state of D.H.Lawrence's literary works and philosophical system both at home and abroad, and analysing four different groups of male-female relationships, this paper proposes a new understanding of the polarity thought of D.H.Lawrence and his view on male-female relationship. Though Lawrence's idea is kind of radical and has its own limitation, we should still admire his brave literary creation.
