The story in the theme of Yangjiajiang is well-known all over the county and has been spreading extensively all the time and is popular with common people. There are a lot of records in historical data, local chronicle and scholar's notes. From Song Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, from the records of simple national history to the popular and long treatise, the main characters in Yangjiajiang experienced a long history of evolvement. In this process, different culture groups in different history periods are all involved in the evolvement and broadcast of main characters in Yangjiajiang. Increasingly, they are added into elements of new eras. The feature of multi-resources is thus formed. All this promote the development and evolvement of main characters in Yangjiajiang and make it enrich and improve.This thesis starts with the beginning of the story of Yangjiajiang. Considering the evolvement process of main characters in Song Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, this thesis elaborates the development and evolvement in the above-mentioned stages.This thesis can be divided into six chapters.Chapter One concludes the prototype of main characters in Yangjiajiang, on the basis of The History of Song Dynasty.Chapter Two starts with the source of the story of Yangjiajiang and depicts the popularity of the story in Song Dynasty. In the novels of Nan Song, there has already been two novels named Yang Sir and Wulang to be the Monk. Although the books of the novels have been lost, the story has been passed down in oral absorbing the unambiguous attitudes of common barnstormers either appreciation or depreciation. It conveys the vow populism that people love peace and unification. It is totally different with the record by official history. The description about Yangjiajiang in official history is obscure and brief. All the thoughts are on behalf of the exploiting class. On the contrary, the story passed down in oral reflects the opinions of common people towards Yangjiajiang. It is live and affects deeply the emergence of the novel and drama about Yanjiajiang.Chapter Three is mainly about the appreciation of main characters in Yangjiajiang in drama of Yuan Dynasty. The compositions by folk artisans were chiefly influenced by fold culture. Their thoughts were much opener than orthodox scholars and their works was close to original life of common people. The Zaju (a form of drams in Yuan Dynasty) of Yangjiajiang (Mengliang Steals Bones in Haotian Pagoda and Xie Jinwu Demolishes Qingfeng Mansion Craftily) follows the legends and novels of Song and Jin Dynasty. The features shaped by the dramas have obvious vulgar culture characteristics of Zaju of Yuan Dynasty. A lot of excellent plots develop into single drama later, such as Li Ling Tombstone, The Record of Sanguan, Meng Lang Steals Bone, Xie Jinwu, etc. The features of characters in these dramas and the description of language have obvious vulgar culture characteristics of Zaju of Yuan Dynasty.Chapter Four is mainly the narration of literary works on Yangjiajiang in Ming Dynasty. The dramas about Yangjiajiang in Ming Dynasty, Eight Kings Save Faithful Minister, Liu Lang Deploys and Breaks Line-up, Jiao Guangzan Seizes alive Xiao Tianyou, follow the theme and styles of dramas in Yuan Dynasty, Menglang Steals Bones in Haotian Pagoda, and Xie Jinwu Demolishes Qingfeng Mansion Craftily. Meanwhile, a lot of personage and story plots were added. The language is humorous, personage image is honest and lifelike and it is full of folk interests. The theme of Old Man Huang Blesses Shang Yannian is to appraise the faithfulness and loyalty of Liu Lang. This complies with traditional Confucian culture. The legend of Yangjiajiang spread in Ming Dynasty mostly extracts some stories about Yanjiajiang and lacks general narration of main characters. It has not formed a system.The novels about Yangjiajiang in Ming Dynasty have two versions (History of Bei Song and Historical Romance of Yangjiajiang) both of which narrate the deeds of five generations of Yang fighting for their county. It inherits the popular legend of the former generation and literary works. The image of personage in the book is plump and vivid and has obvious characteristics of historical romance novels of ancient history of our country. The uncultivated hero and woman image are particularly excellent in Historical Romance of Yangjiajiang.Chapter Five elaborates the dramas about Yangjiajiang in Qing Dynasty. This part is the key points. The story of Yangjiajiang in this period spread extensively unprecedented. Lots of dramas in theme of Yangjiajiang emerged. Drama by scholars is represented by Zhaodai Xiaoshao for palace. local opera is represented by Tie Qi Zhen. Zhaodai Xiaoshao tells the whole story of Yangjiajiang fighting for their country from breakout of the war between Liao and Song to the victory of Song Dynasty so as to praise the wise emperor and the loyalty of Yangjiajiang and criticize the evils. There are a lot of images of personage and the vivid description of huge scenes in this drama, including the tight atmosphere, complicated plot, and the fan-like frame of narration with many steps and directions. There are lots of roles and detailed background and dresses-descriptions. On the base of History of Bei Song, Zhaodai Xiaoshao cuts and adds lots of personages and plots in order to make the chapters link tightly and the personages fluently. It is the most integrity one in the series of the works on Yangjiajiang.Tieqizhen mainly describes the story of Yang Ye and his sons conquering Nan Tang with traditional folk culture. This drama embodys the writer's idea that Song is the main force peace and the thought of conceal. The women images are quite vivid in the drama.The last chapter is a summary of this whole thesis. From the oral legend of Yangjiajiang in Song Dynasty to the poem-like description in Qing Dynasty, the main characters of Yangjiajiang experienced a historical source from little to much, from simple to completed, from thin to full. The works of different dynastys has their own characteristics, but in the general peaking, they have become a huge framework in the form of more complicated, deeper, more detailed and more integrity. The theme is becoming from hero to moral hero to hero and morality.The evolve of main characters in Yangjiajiang during every dynasty, not only reflects the writer's thought, but also has particular cultural meaning. From those images, we can see the history and the culture of their time. This thesie describes the historical evolving of main characters in Yangjiajiang, with the wish that it can be helpful for the following researchers who study the works of Yangjiajiang.
