Research has seldom been focused on the writing test in NMET because of its special characteristics. Adopting mainly the theories of the science of assessment and sociology and employing the theories on writing, linguistics, language testing, pedagogy when necessary, this paper tentatively analyzes the theory that the writing test in NMET bases on, the history, the present status, the future development of the writing test in NMET, so as to discover some fundamental ideas on it and find some effective ways to further scientize it. After researching, the main ideas are as following:The writing test in NMET is an activity that the government educational administration tests and evaluates the examinees' writing ability in NMET in written form. The writing test in NMET is a middle level and scope-limited writing .Writing test in NMET is affected by the social development demand for foreign language talents' quality, and must embody this kind of quality demand in testing content, testing method etc. Just as other kinds of test, NMET writing test depends on the social development, and if it is unable to suit the social development, it bears no value at all.From the historical perspective, NMET writing test has experienced three stages: being prevalent, being ignored and being innovated. Personnel foreign language quality demanded by social development, the research on the writing test and tests reform contribute to the vicissitude of NMET writing test. NMET writing being practiced nowadays mainly plays a positive role, but the problems with it still exist and are as following: the theory research on it is not correctly directed, its item number and testing style has seldom been innovated, its room for testees' free thought is small and its washback is seriously negative. NMET writing should add to its proportion, enrich its testing style, and discriminate different writing levels to better suit the future social development, on the premise of basing it on the reality of the education and society, being directed by the social demand, and in the principle of emphasizing application, so that the writing in NMET can be more effective, scientific, positive directing, and finally more suitable to satisfy social demand of the foreign language quality.
