The Aesthetic Transplantation In English-Chinese Poetry Translation

In this thesis, the author first gives a review of the western and Chinese history of poetry translation theory, and demonstrates some of the difficulties that occur in E-C poetry translation, thus it shows us the significance of the study of E-C poetry translation in theory and in practice. From the history of western and Chinese aesthetics, we can find that translation and aesthetics are interlinked. Prof. Xu Yuanchong's method of "three-in-one" in translation encompasses the aesthetic elements. In his work, China and West: Comparative Poetics and Translatology, Prof. Gu Zhengkun classifies the beauty of poetry and provides valuable suggestions in the study of E-C poetry translation. In the main part of the thesis, the author analyzes the three translation works of Shakespeare's Sonnets by Liang Zongdai, Tu An and Gu Zhengkun. And to some extent or to the utmost extent, they demonstrate the beauty of sight, sound, rhetorical device, saying, allusion and image in Shakespeare's Sonnets and how to deal with the aesthetic transplantation in the Chinese translation versions. Hopefully the thesis will provide some value to the research and practice of E-C poetry translation and therefore contribute to the field of poetry translation.
