The reform of translation teaching has been undergoing for many years, yet no obvious achievement has been made. This study begins with reviewing translation teaching, translation learning in particular. Autonomous learning (AL) is introduced into translation learning (TL) to explore the linkages between the two.The major findings of this study are as follows:1) The translation learners can realize the problems in their translation learning, but fail to be autonomous learners;2) Linkages exist between translation learning and autonomous learning and a theoretical framework is put forward;3) The introduction of autonomous learning will shed some light on curriculum design.Based on those findings, the study suggests that translation learners should have a general idea of autonomous learning, that translation teachers should transfer their role, and autonomous learning should be acquired in translation curriculum design.
