As a comprehensive audio-visual art, television is a crystallization of science and technology and artistic creation. Since the day of its birth, television was inextricably connected with the rapid development of high technology. Especially since the 1970's, the rapid development of digital technology has provided the television picture with infinite development space and the possibility of free expression, and it has also had a far-reaching impact on the television art and caused essential transformation to it. Thus television opened a new era to the digital television art.Image is not only the basic unit of the television work's structure, but also basic visual elements of modeling language. In order to meet the audience's upgrading aesthetic level, the digital television picture creation is required to be demonstrated in different levels and characteristics. In order to enhance the of digital television image, besides visual sense organ stimulating, we need to adopt the technique combining ideology and artistry, try to exploit various performance elements of audio-visual arts, and dig out the art's characteristics and laws behind the its surface. Different from the traditional television picture, digital television pictures have richer potential of performance and diversified characteristics of new art. It not only reflects the closer integration of contents and the expression of emotion, but also involves some deeper things—artistic philosophy of picture creation. Therefore, a theoretical study of digital television picture creation art is significant and extremely urgent.This paper can be divided into the following four parts:First, a brief introduction to digital television picture. This part starts from the definition of television picture and the digital television picture. It analyzes the connotation of digital television picture, and makes a comprehensive analysis of the digital television picture's categories and present applications. This part lays the foundation for the later elaboration.Second, technological physics of digital television picture. It mainly discusses the digital television technology, introduces some digital fundamental knowledge of the digital television picture, and analyses digital process of the digital television and television art separately. In this part, the development of digital television picture is divided into three phrases: initial, developing and the mature. And their technical signs are introduced separately. At the end, a research of some mainstream digital picture manufacture systems such as hypothesized studio, non-linear edition and so on is conducted and a comparatively systematic analysis is made.Third, research of the digital television picture art's characteristics. This is the major content and the innovation point of this paper. It studies some new artistic characteristics that digital television picture is different from the traditional one. It carries on the key analysis of the following five aspects of digital television picture: visual marvelous sight, hypothesized and reality, space and time structure, composition shape and language structure, artistic transcendence.Fourth, analysis of some problems and deficiencies of the digital television picture development. It puts forward some understanding of the future development of digital television images in combination with the development strategies and trends of digital television arts. The problems and deficiencies are elaborated in three aspects: the practical difficulties in the application of digital technology, misunderstanding on the concept or technology, and the weakening of the contents of digital images aesthetic theme. In view of the problems existing in the current development of the television pictures, the paper also puts forward proposals from four aspects: raising the technological level, a good grasp of technology position, avoiding the erroneous figures and creating a development path with Chinese characteristic based on the local community.In summary, this paper makes a systematic analysis of the technology, historical development and present creation situation of digital television picture. On this basis, it further discusses the artistic features of digital television picture. All the above analysis will make great contributions to the developing digital television art theory of our country and reality.
