Wang Anyi's Song of Everlasting Sorrow was awarded the 5th Maodun's literary reward, some critics believed that it's her best work. In this novel, the writher's angle of view turned to city from countryside. The writer chose some imagery to be as a carrier, and chose Wang Qi Yao'daily life in a lane in Shanghai to show the female'Shanghai, Shanghai's daily life and Shanghai's past times. This is the unusual history, and unusual city picture in the writer'eyes.Novel is not only the copy of figure, plot and surroundings, but also a kind of art which shows the picture of society and life with the help of imagery. To inspect the narrative of the novel from the angle of imagery is a brand-new idea in the study of novel. In my opinion, the imagery in the Song of Everlasting Sorrow should be one of the writer's aims, that is to show her ideas and attitude. The usage of imagery is symbol and the charming of it is implicit and indistinct. Image narration is the excellent point of this novel. My article is trying to promulgate the symbol meaning of the imagery of this novel and the writer's humane spirit and appreciation of the beauty. There is three parts in this article:The first part is imagery and the introduction of imagery narration. In this part, I analysed the different concepts of the imagery and summed up the classify condition of it.In the second part, I expressed the narration angle of view, the narration fundamental key, the narration tactics and narration style of this novel through some imagery such as nongtang, dress, diet etc.In the third part, I analysed the constructive way of imagery and aesthetic features of the novel through the inspection of some imagery such as darkness, death, Wu bridge, etc, to show the loneliness and sadness in her heart.
