| Opium War breaking through the closed China door, some people in the Pearl River Delta region took the lead in emigrating to overseas and therefore formed a huge tide that lasted 100 years. Chinese emigration and settlement in Australia is a part of the huge tide. This paper explores Chinese migration background and causes, former and historical vicissitudes of Chinese Australian community. Although Australia restricted Chinese, Australian Chinese tried hard to adapt the social mainstream. Hoping that through studying the above aspects, this paper can sum up the basic pattern and structure of the early Chinese community in Australia, as well as Chinese Australian have made historical contributions to promoting Sino-Australian friendship and Australian economic prosperity.The paper is divided into three parts:Part 1: I try to discuss the condition of Chinese migration from the middle of the 20th century to the foundation of the Commonwealth of Australian, which includes three parts:Chinese migration background, Chinese population distribution and living state in Australia, Australian, attitude towards Chinese migration and analyse the causes of this attitude, by colonies.Part 2: I narrate the social state of Chinese migration under the Commonwealth Immigration Restriction Act (1901—47).Part 3: I mainly discuss the contributions of the overseas Chinese to China, involving economy, public service and revolution, etc. |
