The present study investigates the topic familiarity factor and the vocabulary factor in Chinese listening comprehension. Participants were 61 students enrolled in college of Chinese studies at Beijing Language and Culture University. The data were collected through an experiment and a survey method. T-tests and multivariate tests were used to address the research questions.The results of the study indicate that the main effect of topic familiarity is significant in the experiment,it has great influence on foreign students'listening comprehension. In addition, vocabulary factor's effect is less significant than topic familiarity, but still reaches the significance, p<0.5.However, the interaction between topic familiarity and the number of new words is not significant.According to the research ,when students listen to the familiar topics ,they tend to use"top-down"accessing method,otherwise,they tend to use"bottom-up"accessing method.The last part discusses what the hints the findings give to Chinese listening teaching and gives some advice for further study.
