The dissertation analyzes the narrative arts of Flaubert's representative workMadame Bovary from the aspects of the narrative structure, narrative perspective andlanguage on the basis of the theory of classical narratology and stylistics. In MadameBovary, Flaubert used a structure between the traditional novels and modern ones, limited omniscient perspective and free indirect discourse which are different fromboth the traditional novels and the modern ones, all of which led to a brilliant realisticmasterpiece with the characteristics of modernity. The publication of Madame Bovaryis a pivot of modern novels because of its narrative arts. The unique features ofstructure, perspective and language in this novel embodied quite a different style fromthat of the former realistic novels. It's an evolvement of the modern novels, whichgive important inspiration to the narrative techniques of the modern novels as well.
